Deadline has brought word that the upcoming biopic surrounding the murder of Gucci founder’s grandson Maurizio Gucci has found its star in the form of A Star is Born‘s Best Original Song Oscar winner Lady Gaga, as well as signing on Ridley Scott (All the Money in the World) to helm the project.

The film, which is being scripted by Roberto Bentivegna based on Sara Gay Forden’s “The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed,” will bring to life the tale of the iconic fashion brand’s rise to stardom and the problems that inevitably sprouted out, with the company becoming corporatized and squabbles and greed leading to a power struggle among the key players for the brand.

Maurizio, who had two daughters with Patrizia Reggiani, left her for another woman and went on to sell his stock in the company in 1993 for over $170 million only to be gunned down by a hired hitman on the steps of his office in 1995. Patrizia, who had a brain tumor removed in the years prior, was tried and convicted for orchestrating her ex-husband’s murder, and despite her children’s pleas to the court and public to reevaluate her mother’s case as the operation drastically changed her behavior, she was portrayed darkly in the media, being dubbed the Black Widow and was sentenced to 29 years before being let out early in 2016 after only 18 years.

Gaga, who was also nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars for her turn in last year’s remake of the music drama A Star is Born, signed on to the project shortly after the awards. With Scott now attached to the project, the film is being shopped around to various studios. The 81-year-old director is also set to produce alongside Giannina Scott and Scott Free Productions.
