Audio-Technica is known for its music headsets and turntables, but it has been entering the gaming headset space. There’s the Audio-Technica ATH-G1WL wireless, which is perfect for PC gamers. Then there’s the Audio-Technica ATH-G1 Gaming Headset, which is compatible with the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Both headsets are derived from Audio-Technica’s ATH-M50x headphones, and we had the chance to experience the latter. The Audio-Technica ATH-G1 Gaming Headsetcheck delivers good audio with our voice coming in clear through the mic. It is all around a great headset for gamers who prefer something light without too much pressure on the ears.
What’s Inside
The Audio-Technica ATH-G1 Gaming Headset comes inside a regular cardboard box. It doesn’t come with a bag or case, so you’re out of luck if you don’t have an extra storage bag lying around. The microphone has a windscreen and is detachable, allowing you to use it as a regular headset for music. The Y-type stereo headset cable can plug into your PC to enable mic and output audio. The attached headset cable is 6.6’ long and features an inline remote that controls the volume and mute.
Comfort
Comfort is where the headset shines. There isn’t too much pressure, which is a good thing for those with a bigger head. This makes it possible for longer listening periods since your ears won’t feel like it’s suffocating. It’s also lightweight, adding for even more comfortability and less weight applied to your head.
Audio Quality
The headset features 45 mm drivers, and even with its lightweight design, the sound is still good. It’s not stellar though, and that’s kind of sad since Audio-Technica has delivered impeccable audio with its other headsets. It’s a bass-heavy headset with highs and mediums taking a bit of a backseat. For gaming, it is sufficient enough, but it’s actually better when listening to music.
Mic audio is loud and clear, and it’s great at picking up your voice while disregarding background noises thanks to the cardioid setup. Another plus is that you don’t need to place it too close to your mouth to be heard clearly.
Final Reaction
There are other headsets in the same price range with even more impressive sound; however, the Audio-Technica ATH-G1 Gaming Headset still delivers good sound. Its lightweight design and comfortable earcups make it one of our favorite gaming headset for long sessions.
Score: 3.5/5 Atoms
