Universal adapting Adib Khorram’s Darius the Great is Not Okay
According to Deadline, Universal is prepping Adib Khorram’s 2018 young adult novel Darius the Great is Not Okay for a feature film. Per the report, writers Kevin Hamedani and Travis Bentz will pen the adaptation for production company Mandeville Films.

The YA novel follows a young man named Darrius who lives his life through fantasy adventures – he speaks Klingon better than his own language, and understands the social cues of The Hobbit more than those in the real world. Obviously, he doesn’t quite fit in anywhere, and has developed a healthy case of depression as a result. Then one day he meets Sohrab, a kid next door who strikes a friendship with Darrius and helps him learn the values of life through soccer, food, and secret rooftop conversations. The relationship helps Darrius feel more like who he truly wants to be.
Darrius was selected as a BEA Young Adult Buzz Book and had since won many awards, including this year’s William C. Morris Debut Award.

Mandeville Films also produced the upcoming Amazon Studios’ release The Aeronauts arriving on Dec. 6.
