Based on Alissa Nutting’s tragic/comedy novel, Made for Love is a dark, absurd, and cynically poignant story of divorce and revenge. The series, from Patrick Somerville (Maniac, The Leftovers) and Paramount TV, will show how far some will go for love and much further others will go to destroy it.

It follows Hazel Green (Milioti), a thirtysomething woman on the run after 10 years in a suffocating marriage to Byron Gogol, an unstable, needy, possibly sociopathic tech billionaire. Soon she discovers that her husband has implanted a revolutionary monitoring device — the Made for Love chip — in her brain, allowing him to track her, watch her and know her thoughts and feelings as she tries to stay alive. Also, there are dolphins. The chip allows Byron unprecedented access to Hazel’s brain as she flees to her desert hometown to take refuge with her aging widower father and, alarmingly, his sex doll.

The 61-year-old actor has signed on to portray Herbert, Hazel’s estranged father who is described as “widower and retired con man who shuns relationships due to a fear of loss.” Herbert plans to spent the remainder of his life with Diane, a high-end and very realistic sex doll, but when Hazel comes to him fearing for her life, he’s forced to reckon with internal regrets and take action.

S.J. Clarkson (Game of Thrones prequel, Collateral) will direct and executive producer. Somerville will write the series and is serving as showrunner. Executive producers also include Clarkson, Nutting, 3dot Productions’ Liza Chasin, and Dean Bakopoulos.
