The sequel was down compared to the 2017 original however, which opened with $123 million two years ago debuting to the highest opening weekend for a horror movie of all time. Despite the 27% decrease, IT Chapter Two is officially the second highest horror opening of all time. Lionsgate and Millennium’s Angel Has Fallen slipped to the #2 spot at the domestic box office, falling 49% and bringing in an estimated $6 million. The sequel has officially brought in $53.46 million in the US, down from the previous entry in the series which finalized its theatrical run with $62.5 million.

Universal Pictures’ Good Boys fell to third place and brought in $5.39 million over the weekend. Overall the comedy now sits at $66.8 million domestic, with the film now officially passing Fox’s final X-Men movie Dark Phoenix. Should the film’s steady box office hold, which has already made it a success story for the studio, it could also pass the likes of Yesterday and Annabelle Comes Home very soon. Internationally the Jacob Tremblay lead comedy has brought in $15 million, giving it a global total of $82.4 million.

Walt Disney Pictures’ The Lion King slipped on the rocks and landed in fourth place, bringing in $4.193 million for a US total of $529 million. Internationally the photo-realistic reimagining brought in another $13.4 million for an international total of $1.069 billion and a worldwide total of $1.599 billion. The film remains the #7 highest grossing movie of all time, passing Marvel’s The Avengers last week and sitting just being 2015’s Jurassic World with $1.671 billion.

The faith based film Overcomer stayed fifth place with $3.75 million, giving it a US total of $24.7 million. Hailing from the filmmakers behind War Room, Courageous, and Fireproof, and produced on a reported budget of $5 million, the film is a modest hit for the summer.
