WarnerMedia considering Family Matters, Step by Step reboots
Deadline is reporting that the WarnerMedia streamer is eyeing reboots of some of Warner Bros. TV’s classic comedies, such as Family Matters, Step by Step, Perfect Strangers, and Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper.

The outlet notes that the potential reboots are only in “exploratory stages,” but there is interest in adding reboots (thanks in part to the success of Netflix’s reboot of Full House) alongside the streamer’s list of upcoming originals and WBTV’s exclusive library. Such as, for example, making the streamer the exclusive home to Friends, which will likely be pulled from Netflix.
Perfect Strangers debuted in 1986 and revolved around the Midwestern American Larry Appleton (Mark Linn-Baker) and his distant overseas cousin Balki Bartokomous (Bronson Pinchot). Created by Dale McRaven, the sitcom aired for eight seasons and spawned the spinoff Family Matters, created by William Bickley and Michael Warren. The series ran for nine seasons, beginning in 1989, with Steve Urkel (Jaleel White) as its star character.
Step by Step, the blended-family sitcom from Bickley and Warren, starred Patrick Duffy and Suzanne Somers. The series aired for seven seasons, from 1991-1998. Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, created by Franklin, starred Mark Curry and Holly Robinson and ran for five seasons after premiering in 1992.

The WarnerMedia streamer recently announced they had picked up their Gremlins animated prequel, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, to series. Original content, including Kaley Cuoco’s The Flight Attendant, Dune: The Sisterhood, Tokyo Voice starring Ansel Elgort, and Anna Kendrick’s Love Life, won’t be expected to arrive on Warner’s streaming platform until sometime in 2020.
