For Iron Man fans, The Mandarin is the one villain that they believe is the true arch-nemesis for the armored Avenger. He’s the Joker to Tony’s Batman. The Lex Luthor to his Superman. Unfortunately, with the death of Tony Stark at the end of Avengers: Endgame it looks as if we’ll never get to see the REAL Mandarin on screen ever again.
Yet, during their panel at Hall H today, not only are we getting a Shang-Chi film but we’re also getting the true cinematic incarnation of Iron Man’s greatest villain. Yes, it sucks that we’ll never see The Mandarin take on Iron Man but at least we finally get him. Not to mention, Marvel Studios has cast a world-class actor to play him as well. International Chinese superstar, Tony Leung (The Grandmaster, Infernal Affairs), will be playing The Mandarin in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
In the panel, Kevin Feige reveals that the Ten Rings influence has always been around. From their early appearance in Iron Man to Ant-Man, the Ten Rings are everywhere. However, time will tell whether or not the Mandarin will have his famous ten rings of power or not. After all, Shang-Chi isn’t a mystical character. He is the master of kung fu. That being said, the conflict between magic and reality has always been a staple in the fight between Iron Man and the Mandarin. So that might also be the cast too with the Mandarin and Shang-Chi.
In addition, director Destin Cretton and Kevin Feige announced that Simu Liu would be playing Shang-Chi in the film. Liu is primarily known for his role of Jung in the Netflix show “Kim’s Convenience”. In addition to Leung and Liu, Awkwafina will be in the film as well.
So what do you think of the film’s cast so far?
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hit theaters on February 12, 2021.
