The next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be more inclusive, especially with the lineup fans saw during the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. The films announced included Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Thor: Love and Thunder, and The Eternals. Marvel Studios President Kevin Fiege even talked about how he wanted to bring more diversity in the future. Now there’s a report that Marvel Studios is looking to cast a transgender actress for a role in Phase 4.
There’s no news on who the character is, or whether it’ll be a movie or a show under Disney+, but according to Geeks WorldWide, the codename for the character is “Jessica.” It reported that Marvel is searching for “a transwoman actress of any ethnicity in her 20s to 30s,” and that the project is scheduled to film in 2020. One guess is that the character could be Sera, a transwoman and one of the Anchorites in Marvel Comics. She’s a love interest for Angela, who’s an angel who battled Todd McFarlane’s Spawn.
The CW’s superhero shows also made headlines when Supergirl cast Nicole Maine, a transwoman, to play a transgender superhero known as Dreamer.
