Bok-Bok, bitch… well, that’s a chicken sound.
So, squawk, squawk, bitch!
Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay has been cast as Scuttle the Seagull and Flounder, respectively, in the live-action telling of Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
After news of Halle Bailey’s casting as Ariel, Disney revealed some more goodies with Awkwafina and Tremblay news. The Little Mermaid will be directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns). Marshall plans to incorporate all the original songs from the 1989 animated film as well as some new tunes from legendary composer Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Moana, Hamilton). Marshall and Miranda will be producing the film alongside Marc Platt and John DeLuca. The script is written by David Magee and Jane Goldman.
Based on the Disney animated film of the same name, The Little Mermaid follows a mermaid princess named Ariel who falls in love with a human, Prince Eric. Ariel sacrifices her voice to the wicked sea witch in order to become a human and must get Eric to fall in love with her or else she’ll turn back into a mermaid. Fans of the beloved classic will hear Menken’s Oscar-winning music including Part of Your World, Under the Sea, Poor Unfortunate Souls, and Kiss the Girl.
Awkwafina and Tremblay will play Ariel’s best friends – a seagull and fish, respectively. Melissa McCarthy is currently in talks to play the wicked sea witch. Ursula.
Disney’s The Little Mermaid is set to release in 2020.
