Tom Holland Was ‘Heartbroken’ His Into The Spider-Verse Cameo Was Cut

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was jam-packed with Easter eggs and other nods to the webhead’s legacy, but not every one of them made it into the final cut.

In an interview with JOE, Tom Holland, who’ll once again wear the tights when Spider-Man: Far From Home opens in theaters next week, revealed that he had a brief appearance in Into the Spider-Verse that, unfortunately, didn’t make the final cut.

“At one point I was supposed to be in it. Yeah, there was going to be another Peter Parker. It was a scene in a train station or something. It was going to be like an Easter egg. It was going to walk through the background and say like ‘hey kid’ or something. Never happened. Heartbroken.”

It was widely discussed that an early draft of Into the Spider-Verse would’ve included an appearance from Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield. It’s unclear if this is the scene Holland’s referring to, but it’s fun to imagine all the ideas that ended up on the cutting room floor.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street, brought their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

Shameik Moore, star of The Get Down and Dope, voiced Miles Morales in the film. He was joined by Hailee Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen, Jake Johnson as Peter Parker along with Kimiko Glenn (Orange Is the New Black) as SP//dr aka Peni Parker; comedian John Mulaney as Spider-Ham; and Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir. Which didn’t leave enough room for a cameo by our current live-action Spider-Man.

Then again, there’s always the sequel. Until then, pick up Into The Spider-Verse on Amazon.

You can see Spidey in action once again when Spider-Man: Far From Home opens everywhere July 2.
