The Flash Season 5 Episode 22 Recap
The Flash Season 5 Episode 22 has the team in a bind. Ralph stops Barry from destroying Cicada’s dagger, taking the full blast from the mirror gun. Sherloque tells the team that Ralph figured out Thawne’s plan. By sending Nora back in time to stop Cicada and destroy the dagger, he’ll be freed in the future. Who do they go after? Barry refuses to let Cicada kill hundreds of metahumans, so that’s where they’re going to start.
The Present
Cicada plans to repair the time sphere and use it to go back to the night of the particle accelerator explosion and deploy the weapon right after the first metahumans are created. Barry and the team arrive before Cicada can go back in time. Using the portal device, the team traps Cicada in a force field at Star Labs while Nora enters young Grace’s mind and convinces her to take the cure.
Cicada breaks out of her prison and returns to the cabin, where the cure doesn’t work on Grace. As long as the dagger exists, Grace can’t be cured. Cicada overwhelms and incapacitates the team. As Cicada is about to stab Nora with the dagger, Cisco opens a portal and tosses Barry the mirror gun. Barry blasts the dagger, destroying it, which allows Grace to heal and disintegrates Cicada.
The Future
With the dagger destroyed, Thawne gets his powers back. He kills his guards and makes to escape when Nora and Barry reverse time and confront Thawne before he kills the guards. Thawne leads them on a chase through the city, which ends with the Cisco opening a portal and hitting Thawne in the face with the time sphere. The team arrives in the future and works together to defeat Thawne. Nora is about to kill Thawne, but is stopped by her parents. Nora starts to disintegrate like Cicada did. Thawne explains that changes to the timeline are solidifying, and that the only way to save Nora is for her to enter the negative speed force, where she’ll be immune to the changes. Nora refuses, knowing that doing so would make her like Thawne. She opts to fade away as a hero than live full of negative emotion.
The Aftermath
Back in the future, the team mourns Nora. Iris finds Nora’s journal left behind, written in time language, so it will persist no matter what happens to the timeline. Inside, Barry and Iris discover a video message from Nora, thanking them for being great parents and making her a hero. Sherloque returns to his earth to be with Renee, saying that Ralph is all the detective the team needs. In the lab, Cisco asks Caitlin to administer the metahuman cure to him so that he can be with Camille. Cisco doesn’t want his powers to be the most interesting thing about him. At CCPD, Captain Singh has been promoted to chief of police, naming Joe his successor. Singh knows that Joe has plenty of back up, what with Barry being The Flash and all.
In the time vault, unseen by anyone, the news article stating that The Flash has disappeared changes from 2024 to 2019.
