Jeff Goldblum questions everyone’s sanity in The Mountain trailer

In the first trailer for The Mountain, Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) lends his affable, fascinated charm to the role of an unconventional neurosurgeon in 1950s America, who’s methodology steadily gets out of control. This is witnessed by a young photographer played by Tye Sheridan (Dark Phoenix) accompanies him on a tour, he sees this questionable technique first-hand. You can check out the trailer below (via /Film).

With Andy’s (Sheridan) mother is confined to an institution, he has lived in the shadow of his stoic father. A family acquaintance, Dr. Wallace Fiennes (Goldblum), employs the introverted young man as a photographer to document an asylum tour advocating for his increasingly controversial lobotomy procedure. As the tour progresses and Andy witnesses the doctor’s career and life unravel, he begins to identify with the institutions’ patients. When they arrive at a California mountain town, a growing center of the New Age movement, they encounter an unconventional French healer who requests a lobotomy for his own daughter, Susan.

The film is directed by Rick Alverson (Entertainment) from a script he co-wrote with Dustin Guy Defa (Person to Person) and Colm O’Leary (The Comedy). Hannah Gross, Denis Lavant, and Udo Kier co-star alongside Sheridan and Goldblum.

The Mountain will open in New York and Los Angeles on July 26.
