Last night’s Game of Thrones was a doozy. There were crazy moments and closures to many of the characters, and it has created a rift in the fanbase.
Spoilers Ahead for Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5 “The Bells”
It wasn’t the buildup of “Winter is coming” that is finishing the series, it’s the ultimate showdown to see who’s going to be sitting on the iron thrones. Well, after last night’s episode, is the iron throne still going to be a thing? Dany has laid waste to Kings Landing with help from Drogon, and together they have burned the city to the ground, including the innocent people. She has become the Mad Queen, just like her father, the Mad King. Her actions are a few things that have caused a rift within the Game of Thrones community. On one corner, people didn’t see her turn to the dark side as coming out of the left field. On the other corner, people feel cheated and are fed up with the show’s writing. Together, the fans have expressed their feelings on social media.
Cersei is the villain that people love to hate, so seeing her get her due should be satisfying. However, the cause of her death has been disappointing to some fans.

Fans have also complained about how the writers for Season 8 have butchered the story. One fan was sad about the death of Lord Varys, The Hound, and Jaime Lannister.
What a disappointing end for Lord Varys, Sir Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane, Jaime Lannister after seven seasons of fan anxiety.
I think the woman and her daughter who saved Arya in kings landing got a better story arc than them all.#GameOfThrones pic.twitter.com/GNxAulzHbv— Ser Homie Sarcaster (@ironyfuck) May 13, 2019
There’s an interview with Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister, and people see it as him rehearsing his praise for showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
When the writing is so bad that even Peter Dinklage who won 3 Emmy award cannot act like he liked it LMAO #GameofThrones https://t.co/cIw5T8zjrh

We have YouTuber YongYea feeling nothing about the characters dying.
In past seasons of Game of Thrones, I felt the weight of every major character death. Each evoked a sense of shock, disbelief, despair, and, every once in a while, triumph. In this season, as I witnessed key characters fall one by one, I felt nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Game of Thrones last night was a staggering disappointment as characters were subverted, plot threads abandoned, and narrative promises betrayed. This episode was so infuriating, I grabbed a recorder and just ranted into it right after. Here is my rant: https://t.co/JE64NCoYOk pic.twitter.com/Ub8607U1uj

I can’t believe Game of Thrones died in last night’s episode. Didn’t see that coming.

The most shocking death was the writing.#GameofThrones pic.twitter.com/oxRTIApfJN

Not all fans have been hating on the recent Game of Thrones.
That Was One Of The Best Game Of Thrones Episodes Ever. If You Disagree, You're Wrong
-She’s always been the Mad Queen
-Cersei and Jaime get satisfying ends to their story arcs
-Cleganebowl was awesome
-All the visuals were sickFull reasoning⬇️https://t.co/T8WBAGL6io pic.twitter.com/W60ukLj2ow

One image that keeps popping up is the scene where Dany talks about burning cities. So that was definitely foreshadowing that she is capable of doing evil things.
#GameofThrones fans: "Dany would never do that, they ruined her!"

There is one more episode until Game of Thrones is completely finished, which airs on May 19, 2019. Will Jon take over as the ruler? Will Dany meet her end by the hands of Arya? One thing is for sure, the reactions from fans will be entertaining.
