Fox’s Fear Street trilogy adds Emily Rudd and McCabe Slye to cast

Deadline reports that Emily Rudd (The Romanoffs) and McCabe Slye (Destroyer) have been tapped to join the ensemble cast of 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Fear Street trilogy of films. Based on author R.L. Stine’s YA horror book series of the same name, Rudd and Slye will both make their first appearance in the second part of the trilogy which will be set in 1978.

Rudd is set to portray the older sister of Sadie Sink’s character while Slye will be taking on two roles: a burnout who works at a summer camp named Bobby Slater; and Mad Thomas, who is being described as a creepy local drunk who stokes the town’s hysteria.

The horror trilogy will star Gillian Jacobs (Love, Community), Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Ashley Zukerman (The Wind), Fred Hechinger (Eighth Grade), Julia Rehwald (Panic), Jeremy Ford (A Mother’s Sacrifice), Kiana Madeira (Sacred Lies) and Olivia Welch (Modern Family).

The Fear Street trilogy, as its currently planned, will be based on Stine’s novel series of the same name. The series first hit shelves back in 1989. It featured a group of teenagers who dealt with supernatural—and often violent—threats to their small town of Shadyside. All three films are being released back-to-back, with the possible intent to release them theatrically a month apart. Although it’s unclear if this will actually transpire.

All three films will be directed by Leigh Janiak, a relative newcomer whose most noteworthy credits are two episodes of MTV’s Scream series and an indie horror film called Honeymoon, which starred Game of Thrones star Rose Leslie. Chernin Entertainment (War for the Planet of the Apes) is on board to produce with Jason Young to oversee the projects for Fox.

Along with penning Fear Street, Stine is most frequently known for his series of children’s horror novels Goosebumps, which has been adapted for the screen a few times. Its first adaptation was a show of the same name which ran in the mid to late 1990s. More recently, the series has been reimagined for the silver screen. The first Goosebumps film hit theaters in 2015 and starred Jack Black (School of Rock) as Stine himself. The sequel, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, was released in 2018 and featured a mostly-new cast of characters.
