Lucy Liu lands lead role in CBS All Access’ Why Women Kill
According to TVLine, Emmy Award-nominated actress Lucy Liu has signed on for one of the leading roles in Marc Cherry’s upcoming comedy drama series Why Women Kill for CBS All Access. Liu is set to portray the role of 80’s socialite Simone who is an elegant, stylish and high-spirited woman. Her official character description reads:
“Simone is the picture of urbane confidence, moving through the world as if it were a delightful movie starring herself, smugly superior, a woman for whom appearances mean everything, she thrives on shopping and throwing parties, seemingly happily married to her indulgent husband, Karl, who thinks she is simply fabulous. However, despite nagging premonitions, Simone is devastated, her world upended, when she learns that Karl has been cheating on her.”

Liu is best known for her role in the first film adaptation of the Charlie’s Angels, starring alongside Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore. Her notable TV credits include: the legal dramedy series Ally McBeal, which earned her an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series; and in the crime drama Elementary, CBS’s modern retelling of Sherlock Holmes.

Why Women Kill will follow the story of three women living in three different decades: a housewife in the ‘60s, a socialite in the ‘80s and a lawyer in 2018, each dealing with infidelity in their marriages. The series will examine how the roles of women have changed, but how their reaction to betrayal has not.
