News of the upcoming live-action Aladdin movie has been getting mixed reactions from fans, including Aladdin’s outfit that’s different from his animated counterpart. The most negative reactions came from the photo of Will Smith as Genie… looking like a regular person. The actor reassured fans that the character will have a human form for his disguise and a blue genie form that will be CG. The promo art of Genie has been leaked that gives us an idea of how Genie is going to look like in the final film.
The concept art does show promise, and fans of Will Smith as Genie should be excited about the direction of the look. However, there are fans that won’t accept Will Smith as Genie no matter what since they believe nothing can top Robin Williams’ performance. The good news is that the classic animated film will always be there, untouched. As for the upcoming film, there’s the choice of watching it or voting with their dollars by not watching the film.
As for when we’ll see the final look of the blue Genie, it will likely happen when the next trailer is released.
Aladdin is directed by Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Swept Away) and written by John August & Guy Ritchie. It stars Will Smith (Independence Day) as Genie, Mena Massoud (Amazon’s Jack Ryan) as Aladdin, Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as Sultan, and Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders.
The live-action film is based on the animated classic that follows Aladdin and his adventures of finding a genie who can grant him wishes. He uses the wishes to impress a princess named Jasmine. However, he’ll soon discover the importance of being true to oneself while stopping a villain from ruling their home city of Agrabah.
Aladdin hits theaters on May 24, 2019.
