This Is Us Season 3 Episode 7 Recap
In the previous episode of NBC’s This Is Us, Zoe agreed to go with Kevin to Vietnam. This Is Us season 3 episode 7 followed them on their trip with flashbacks to Jack’s time in Vietnam and Jack and Rebecca’s road trip to Los Angeles. As the episode began, we saw glimpses of the journey Jack’s necklace took to get to him.
Not Superman
When Jack found Nick after his Article 15 charge, Nick wasn’t happy to see him. Still, Jack went to Major Dawson to ask if he could take Nick with him. He promised to fix Nick’s behavior. Dawson declined since it was policy to keep brothers in separate outfits. Afterwards, Jack would have to walk back to the fishing village before dark since the roads were dangerous.
While walking on the road, Jack came across Bao, who didn’t seem to speak much English. He asked for a ride back and paid him. Bao took him on a motorbike, but stopped in a village. He was dropping off cans, and Jack remembered seeing a homemade mine made out of cans. When Bao dropped him off in a field, Jack asked him if he was Viet Cong, and he replied, “sometimes.” Jack glimpsed the woman with the necklace as he got back. Dawson arrived on a chopper with Nick and gave Jack two weeks.
Road Trip
Jack and Rebecca drove from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles. Rebecca had a meeting at Joni Mitchell’s record label, and Jack wanted to see people he knew in Reseda. As they went further, they got closer and eventually slept together for the first time on the trip. However, Rebecca woke him from nightmares, and he refused to talk about it. When she got to LA and saw her friend Nicole, she confessed she wished Jack would let her in.
After dropping Rebecca off for her meeting, Jack visited the family of Roger “Squirrel” Waterson, who died from a landmine. Jack blamed himself, but Roger’s parents insisted he wasn’t responsible. When he picked up Rebecca, she told him the meeting didn’t go well, and Jack asked to hear the song. As she sang, Jack cried. Afterwards, they headed back to Pittsburgh.
Tourists
Kevin and Zoe arrived in Vietnam. She asked him not to post a picture on social media because she didn’t want her father, who lived in China, to know she was close. Zoe wouldn’t talk more about her father, and it frustrated Kevin. While out to eat at a market, Zoe was adventurous with her food, opting for bat while Kevin had chicken. Kevin saw a tourist wearing a necklace like his, and he realized there were so many out there like his that it probably wasn’t special.
While Kevin and Zoe argued about her father, Zoe felt ill and vomited. Back at their hotel, Kevin confessed to her that he was falling in love with her. She explained that her father had sexually abused her when she was younger. Zoe told him because she was falling in love with him too, and didn’t want her father to ruin them.
