The Deuce Season 2 Episode 5 Recap

In the previous episode of HBO’s The Deuce, Eileen hired a writer for her script, and Kiki and Lori devised a way for Kiki to represent her. This episode began after Kiki proposed the idea to C.C., and Abby persuaded Vincent to host a field clinic at his club.

The field clinic was a success. Abby was getting more involved with Dorothy’s group. She tagged along with Dorothy and Dave to speak with the pimps in the neighborhood. They wanted to broker a truce with the people living in the neighborhood, designating certain times they were allowed in the area. C.C. showed up and tried to intimidate Dorothy. However, Dorothy flaunted her freedom from him, and he did nothing.

C.C. wasn’t fooled when Kiki came to him. He knew that Lori had gone behind his back to Kiki in the first place. He beat her, but the next day, he tried to make up for it with gifts. Eileen had invited Lori over to her apartment to audition for Red. When Eileen suggested Lori changing her life after seeing her black eye, Lori spoke passionately about her situation. Eileen was impressed.

Production problems didn’t cease after Lori’s “audition”. Eileen wanted stars and good actors, but Kiki pointed out that it cost money. Eileen had trouble getting permits and would be fined. And the screenwriter had misinterpreted what she had in mind for the script. She would pay Jocelyn to rewrite it. To fix all her problems, Eileen needed more funding, so she asked Frankie to be a co-producer. He agreed, but immediately started making decisions, like casting his wife, without Eileen’s input.
