Warner Bros has blessed DC fans with a couple of Aquaman goodies. The first is a photo of Jason Momoa as Aquaman with his iconic gold and green outfit and trident. The second is a new extended video, which is pretty much a really long trailer that gives us a glimpse of an epic adventure on land and under the sea.
The opening of the video definitely has the James Wan feel with the snow globe and lighthouse. We’re introduced to Aquaman’s parents, and it gives us some insight into the origin of Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, as a half-human, half-Atlantean. Viewers then journey with Arthur and Mera across the Sahara desert as they look for the lost city of Atlantis. This is really interesting since that means that Atlantis has been abandoned for quite some time, at least for Arthur and Mera.
The meat of the trailer is a clip featuring Black Manta and his team going after Aquaman and Mera in a small coastal town. It’s an action-packed sequence filled with some parkour, breaking walls, and heat beams.
Based on the extended trailer, it’s shaping up to be a grand adventure with a nice balance of humor and action, especially with Momoa’s quips as Arthur.
The film is directed by James Wan (The Conjuring, Saw) and written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring 2) and Will Beall (Gangster Squad) from a story by Geoff Johns & James Wann and Will Beall.
The film stars Moma as Aquaman, Amber Heard (Justice League) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring, Watchmen) as Orm, Dolph Lundgren (The Expendables) as Nereus, Abdul-Mateen II (Netflix’s The Get Down) as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman (The Others) as Atlanna, Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones) as Tom Curry.
Aquaman will be swimming to the shores on December 21, 2018.
