Insomniac Games has created the ultimate Spider-Man game with Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4. (You can read our review here.) The island of Manhattan comes to life as you swing through breathtaking skyscrapers while protecting the citizens from enemies. One of the side missions has you trying to catch Black Cat, aka Felicia Hardy. However, you never get to meet her face to face in the game. That all changes with Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Heist, the first of three chapters for The City That Never Sleeps DLC. The new content includes new story missions, enemies, suits and side missions.
Spider-Man and Mary Jane investigate an art museum robbery. It turns out that Black Cat and mobsters are involved, and it’s up to our heroes to find out what they’re planning. Fans of Black Cat will get to see her do what she does best, and that’s teasing Spider-Man. She’ll use her sexy charm to mess with his mind, and this will create some funny dialogue between Peter Parker and Mary Jane. We have to hand it to Insomniac for doing a wonderful job of capturing Black Cat in looks and personality.
There are a few side missions, with the big one involving the original Black Cat. Comic book fans will get a kick out of this one as Spidey learns more about the original while trying to retrieve stolen paintings.
Screwball is back, and once again Spider-Man will have to play a part in order to stop her fans from wreaking havoc in New York City. There are areas where Spider-Man can earn extra points by beating up a bad guy to help Screwball earn extra fans. Spider-Man can zip through tight areas for more points and some cool photo opportunities.
Of course, with the crime family being introduced in the game, that means they’ll be running amok in Manhattan. Spider-Man will have to stop random crimes from happening.
There are three new suits including the Resilient Suit, the Spider-UK suit, and Scarlet Spider II. Sadly, the suits don’t have an associated power.
We completed The Heist DLC in 3 hours for the main Black Cat missions and side missions featuring Screwball and the original Black Cat. The chapter does end in a cliffhanger, and that should get players hooked for the next chapter to see what happens.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Heist is now available, with the next chapter, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Turf Wars, coming in November, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Silver Lining in December 2018.
A free update has been added called New Game Plus, which allows you to start a new game with the gear, skills and gadgets that you’ve earned from the previous campaign.
