Kristen Bell May Star in Veronica Mars Revival Series on Hulu

Kristen Bell May Star in Veronica Mars Revival Series on Hulu

Veronica Mars may soon have a second life, with Kristen Bell stepping back into the role that made her a fan favorite over a decade ago.

Variety is reporting that series creator Rob Thomas and Warner Bros. TV are working on a Veronica Mars revival series at Hulu. Variety notes that the deal is not finalized, but the new show would bring Bell back into her signature role for the first time in four years. It’s unclear if Bell will be joined by other original cast members, and even Bell’s participation would be complicated by her starring role on The Good Place. Hulu would likely be limited to only a short season of Veronica Mars to work around Bell’s schedule. Variety speculates that could be limited to only eight to ten episodes.

Veronica Mars originally aired in 2004 on UPN, a forerunner of The CW, and it featured Bell as a teenager turned private detective. Veronica’s initial case involved finding the person who murdered her best friend, but she took on an assortment of cases against the backdrop of a larger story. The series ran for three seasons and 60 episodes before it was canceled. In 2013, Thomas, Bell, and most of the series original cast put their support behind a Kickstarter campaign to fund a Veronica Mars movie. It was subsequently released in 2014, with Bell portraying Veronica as she returned to Neptune and resumed her career as a private investigator.

Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni, Percy Daggs III, Francis Capra, Ryan Hansen, Teddy Dunn, Michael Muhney, and Tina Majorino also returned for the Veronica Mars movie. We suspect that most of them will also be back for the potential revival series, pending their schedules.
