Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation opened this weekend and took control of the worldwide box office. The sequel debuted to an estimated $44.1 million for the three-day weekend ($45.376 million including Amazon Prime showings) at the domestic box office. This puts it on par with the previous movies in the series the first Hotel Transylvania opened to $42 milion and the second to $48 million. Internationally the film brought in an additional $54.8 million, giving it a worldwide total of $100 million. Featuring the voices of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Keegan-Michael Key, Molly Shannon, Fran Drescher, Kathryn Hahn, Jim Gaffigan, and Mel Brooks, the sequel is directed by Genndy Tartakovsky.

Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and The Wasp fell 62% in its second weekend, bringing in $28.8 million domestically for a new total of $132.8 million, just behind the first film’s domestic haul of $180 million. Internationally the film brought in another $35.5 million for an international total of $150.9 million and giving the sequel a worldwide total of $283.7 million. The first Ant-Man ended its worldwide theatrical run with $519.3 million, though Ant-Man and The Wasp has yet to open in 49% of its international markets. The sequel stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, Abby Ryder Fortson, Tip “T.I.” Harris, David Dastmalchian, Hannah John-Kamen, Walton Goggins, Randall Park, with Michelle Pfeiffer, with Laurence Fishburne, and Academy Award winner Michael Douglas. The sequel was directed once again by Peyton Reed.

Dwayne Johnson’s latest action-adventure film Skyscraper debuted in third place at the domestic box office with an estimated total of $25.5 million. The film fared slightly better internationally, bringing in $40.4 million from 57 different territories, and giving it a $65.9 million worldwide opening weekend. In the film, Johnson co-stars with Neve Campbell, Chin Han, Noah Taylor, Roland Møller, Byron Mann, Pablo Schreiber, and Hannah Quinlivan. Rawson Marshall Thurber (Central Intelligence, We’re the Millers) wrote and directed.

Disney•Pixar‘s Incredibles 2 slipped into fourth place at the domestic box office with an additional $16.2 million haul for a total of $535.8 million. The film is now the highest grossing animated release of all-time and now the #9 domestic release of all-time, having passed Rogue One ($532M) and The Dark Knight ($535M). Internationally the sequel finally opened in the UK and Ireland and brought in $33.3 million from 72% of its markets. Globally the film has now grossed an estimated $857 million, which has cleared the worldwide total of the first Incredibles movie even when factoring in for inflation adjustments. Written and directed by Brad Bird, the film features the voices of Holly Hunter, Craig T. Nelson, Sarah Vowell, Huck Milner, Samuel L. Jackson, Brad Bird, Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener, Jonathan Banks, Sophia Bush, and Isabella Rossellini.

Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom fell to fifth place in its fourth weekend of release bringing in another $15.32 million which gives it a domestic total of $363.3 million. Internationally the film has brought in $771.4 million for a worldwide total of  $1.134 billion. It’s still over $500 million behind 2015’s Jurassic World, which ended its theatrical run with a $1.67 billion worldwide haul. Directed by J.A. Bayona, the film stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Justice Smith, Geraldine Chaplin, Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall and Isabella Sermon, with BD Wong and Jeff Goldblum.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions The First Purge fell from fourth to sixth place, but still put up an impressive $9.13 million weekend total. Domestically the horror prequel has brought in $49.51 million, coupled with its international total of  $23.1 million for a worldwide total of $72.6 million. The fourth movie in the Purge franchise shows a dip in box office returns from previous entries with its 2016 predecessor The Purge: Election Year being the highest grossing in the series with $79 million domestically and $118.6 million worldwide. The First Purge stars stars Y’Lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, Luna Lauren Velez and Marisa Tomei. It is directed by Gerard McMurray (Burning Sands), working from a screenplay once again written by franchise creator James DeMonaco.
