Jon Favreau to create live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s new streaming service

There are a lot of questions surrounding Disney’s upcoming streaming service. Most of the questions, however, involve what kind of stuff will we be seeing on it. Will we see the Netflix/Marvel series on there? What about The Runaways? Will all of the Marvel and Star Wars films be on there? While the questions remain valid, we now know that a Jon Favreau will definitely be a part of the service.

Today, Lucasfilm announced that Jon Favreau will be executive producing and writing a live-action Star Wars series for the service.

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure,” Favreau said.

Other than the announcement, no other details were given about the series. After all, Jon Favreau is still hard at work at the Lion King live-action remake. Also, it’s unknown if this is the Star Wars series that will be premiering in 2019. However, Bob Iger did mention that there are currently “a few” Star Wars series in development for the service. But the CEO did add that the “talent on the television front is significant.” I guess with the announcement of Jon Favreau, he wasn’t lying.
