NBC’s supernatural drama Midnight Texas has been officially renewed by NBC.
In addition to the renewal, Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder have been assigned as co-showrunners, taking the series over from creator Monica Owusu-Breen. Charmelo and Snyder served as co-executive producers last season and have inked a deal with Universal Television. David Janollari will also serve as executive producer.
“I am stoked at the prospect of a second season of Midnight, Texas,” Harris said in a press statement. “I can’t wait to revisit my favorite town to discover what its inhabitants have been up to the past few months. Now the viewers, who’ve been asking me questions daily, will have their reward.”
The series, based on the best-selling book series by Charlaine Harris, takes place in a remote town in Texas called Midnight. The town, known for its supernatural occurrences, is home to a number of “supes” – Manfred (François Arnaud), a powerful con man with psychic abilities; Fiji (Parisa Fitz-Henley), a witch from the local wiccan shop; Olivia (Arielle Kebbel), a badass assassin; Joe (Jason Lewis), a fallen angel at the tattoo parlor who is in love with a demon (Bernardo Saracino); Creek (Sarah Ramos), the townie with secrets; Lemuel (Peter Mensah), a vampire with the power to consume energy as well as blood; Reverend Emilio Sheehan (Yul Vazquez), a religious were-tiger; and, Bobo (Dylan Bruce), the local pawn shop owner.
Unfortunately, Ramos and Vazques will not return as series regulars. Hopefully, they will return as guest stars to tie up loose ends.
Last season left the gang all coupled up – Lem and Olivia finally tied the knot; Joe and Chuy were reunited; Creek and Manfred declared their love for each other; and, Fiji and Bobo finally knocked boots. But, things weren’t all that peachy. A new company has come to renovate the town of Midnight, but spirits still remain and they’re angry.
