It looks like fans may finally get the Black Widow film they’ve been asking for since the introduction of Natasha Romanoff in 2010’s Iron Man 2.
Now, Marvel may now be in the early stages of it coming to life with screenwriter Jac Schaeffer writing the script, according to Variety.
Schaeffer has previously written the screenplay for Disney’s Olaf’s Frozen Adventure and this year’s Nasty Women, the forthcoming all-female Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake starring Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. Schaeffer is best known for her Black List script, The Shower, a comedy about an alien invasion during a baby shower. With this script, it will be Schaeffer’s first time in the Marvel universe.
Marvel has not confirmed any of the news, but many fans are excited over the news.
Hopefully, the script will include some information about Budapest. If you remember, in the first Avengers, during the Battle of New York, Natasha tells Clint, “Just like Budapest, all over again.” He responds, “You and I remember Budapest very differently.” We were never given any context afterward.
After the success of Patty Miller’s Wonder Woman and the upcoming Captain Marvel film starring Brie Larson, it seemed about time for a Black Widow film to come out. It could also be because of Fox’s new film Red Sparrow coming out in March, starring Jennifer Lawrence as a Russian spy who goes through intensive spy training and only to find out there is something wrong with the system. Sound familiar? Yes, it’s exactly Natasha Romanoff’s story.
Whatever it was that sparked the news, fans are grateful. Hopefully, it will get the final greenlight and we see it actually happen for the beloved agent. Of course, actress Scarlett Johansson has mentioned she would play the character if given her own movie.
Black Widow will be seen next in this year’s Avengers: Infinity Wars Part 1.
