After so much anticipation and theorizing for much of the year, the time has come for Star Wars fans: opening weekend for Episode VII: The Last Jedi! As the sequel to 2015’s breakout new Star Wars trilogy, many have spent much of their time pondering when we last saw our heroic warriors, and where the new film would find them in their journey to save the galaxy.
Now, the time is nigh to flock to your local theater and pick up the story where we last left off, and it seemed like the whole galaxy listened: Star Wars: The Last Jedi had an “out of this world” weekend!
With an estimated $220 million, Star Wars: The Last Jedi delivered the second largest domestic opening weekend ever, right behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which debuted with $247.9 million back in 2015. If you’re following the box office chronological order of release for the Star Wars canon, the film has bested Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘s opening weekend take by about $65 million.
