Star Wars: The Last Jedi brings in $43.8M globally on Monday

Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm‘s Star Wars: The Last Jedi brought in $21.6 million domestically and $22.2 million internationally on Monday for a global sum of $43.8 million for the day. That means the film is up to $241.6 million in North America and $253 million overseas, for a worldwide total of $494.6 million.

Disney notes that the out-of-school benefit is 31% due to the earlier calendar configuration (Rogue One was 48% on its first Monday and Star Wars: The Force Awakens was 77%). Similarly, internationally the calendar configuration has an effect in that Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ first Monday was Dec. 21, which saw parts of Germany on holiday and UK and France both on full holiday, while for this Monday only parts of the UK are on holiday while France and Germany are not yet in holiday. The film will open in China on January 5th.

Here are the international highlights so far:
UK $41.7M
Germany $25.4M
France $20.1M
Australia $17.8M
Japan $16.6M
Spain $9.0M
Russia $8.9M
Brazil $8.2M
Italy $7.6M
Mexico $7.5M
Sweden $6.4M
Korea $5.5M
Poland $5.3M
Denmark $4.3M
Other $68.7M
Total $253.0M
