Tamagotchi pets were huge in the late ’90s, and they’ll be back later this year in limited quantities as smaller versions for its 20th anniversary. That’s crazy since the originals were already small.
The original electronic device acted as a virtual pet where you can care for it on the go. Talk about convenience. I would take these to school with me back in the day and care for them during class when the teacher wasn’t looking. (I’m such a bad kid.) Bandai America’s mini Tamagotchi will be available on November 5, 2017. And even though they are smaller, it will still have the iconic egg shape, pixelated LCD screen, and of course, the digital pet. In addition, there will be six available shell designs, and each will include six characters. The packaging will also be inspired by the original. Check it out below.
Bandai America was able to sell over 82 million Tamagotchi units worldwide since its debut in 1997.
So get ready to care and grow your digital pet once it’s available on November 5th at various North American retailers. The Mini Tamagotchi will cost $14.99, and you can pre-order today.
If this goes big, let’s hope Bandai can work with Nintendo on producing a Tamagotchi game for the Nintendo Switch.
