Star Trek: Discovery: Get a tour of the Discovery

With only 9 more days until the premiere of the anticipated sci-fi series, Star Trek: Discovery, CBS is posting more goodies for fans to sink their teeth in.

Earlier this week, fans watched clips on the music and props. Today, CBS posted an inside look at the set design of the U.S.S. Discovery. The sets are complete sets. The people of Star Trek: Discovery aren’t messing around when it comes to their ship. It is visually stunning.

In the video, co-creator and executive producer Alex Kurtzman narrates, “We wanted to build massive sets that you felt like you were inside of, that were immersive and beautiful and detailed. And, shoot them in a way where we ask the audience to pay attention to the details. At the end of the day, I think that the more tactile and real it looks and feels, the more immersive and believable the whole experience will be for the audience. Certainly, we could have given you half a set and done CGI extension, but the mind is very trained at this point to recognize what is real and what’s not real. The things that I think that are most successful are the ones where you really can’t tell where the real thing ends and the digital begins. You know, you go to the sets and you look at the scope and the scales, I would be dead inside if it didn’t excite me every day. You can talk to any department head and you could feel the love that they have for the world. So many of us were Trekkers growing up and have been waiting for the opportunity to work on something like Star Trek, let alone, to work on Star Trek. We are standing on the shoulders of so many giants and we aim to invite new people who may not have had a relationship with Star Trek who may not love it as much as we do.  That’s the best thing in the world.”
