With Season 7 of Game of Thrones in the book (pun intended) and quite a long time until Season 8, what are Thronesies (pending trademark) to do in the interim? HBO has you covered, as they have unveiled an animated mini-series that takes you through the history of Westeros. It’s called Conquest & Rebellion: An Animated History of the Seven Kingdoms, and to be fair, this actually won’t be a standalone series. It’s a limited edition bonus (totaling 45 minutes) when you preorder the Season 7 Blu-ray or DVD set. Those physical sets won’t be available until December 12th, but digital downloads will be available as early as September 25th.
The animated series itself looks to continue the whole History & Lore features from prior DVD releases. HBO has decided to give us a taste of the first episode entitled, Valyria’s Last Scion: House Targaryen. It follows Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of conquering Westeros after the Doom of Valyria, his homeland. The short is narrated by Harry Lloyd, otherwise known as Viserys Targaryen from Season 1. All of the episodes are actually narrated by Game of Thrones alumni, which I think really keeps the immersion of the stories. Other star include Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Aidan Gillen (Petyr Baelish), Conleth Hill (Varys) and Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy).
