Crunchyroll Expo announces first guests including Final Fantasy illustrator Yoshitaka Amano

Back in March, Crunchyroll announced that it would be launching its very own anime convention later this year known as Crunchyroll Expo (CRX). The convention will be held on August 25-27 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California. And it will feature various partners and publishers from the anime industry.

At Anime Expo, Crunchyroll revealed its first lineup of guests for the Expo, which include illustrator Yoshitaka Amano and animator Hiroshi Shimizu.

Yoshitaka Amano is probably best known for his work in the Final Fantasy series, where he has worked as a character designer, title logo designer, and image illustrator. Before joining Squaresoft (now Square Enix) in 1987, Amano worked at Tatsunoko Production where he would go on to become the creator of characters such as the Science Ninja Team of Gatchaman, Tekkaman: The Space Knight, Hutch the Honeybee and Casshan (also known as Casshern).

Crunchyroll also revealed that Crunchyroll Expo will host an exhibition of Amano’s artwork. This will mark the first time Amano’s work gets exhibited in the US in over seven years.

Previously working as a key animator for Studio Ghibli, Hiroshi Shimizu worked on various animated films including Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, and Only Yesterday. He would later work on various projects as a freelancer with some of his notable works being a key animator for the Blue Exorcist movie, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F” and FLCL. He is currently working on a new collaboration project with Crunchyroll and creator LeSean Thomas (Cannon Busters) known as Children of Ether.

Other guests currently announced are voice actors Ray Chase (Noctis from Final Fantasy XV), Adam Croasdell (Ignis Scientia from Final Fantasy XV), Chris Parson (Gladiolus Amicitia from Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV), Max Mittelman (Ryuji Sakamoto from Persona 5), as well as Youtuber Gigguk.

Tickets for the event are currently on sale starting at $40 for a one-day pass or $65 for a weekend pass. Crunchyroll will also sell VIP and VIP Plus tickets, which offer extra perks. You can find all the information here.
