Ian McShane Says Deadwood Movie Script 'Delivered to HBO'

Deadwood star Ian McShane says that a script for the Deadwood revival film has been ‘delivered to HBO’

It’s looking more likely that those of you waiting to see the return of the HBO series Deadwood will get your wish. A script is in the hands of the cable network, according to TVLine. The site spoke to actor Ian McShane, who said that Deadwood creator David Milch’s “two-hour movie script has been delivered to HBO.” He also joked, “If they don’t deliver [a finished product], blame them.” The development of the revival of the show was reported back in January of 2016, but this is the first confirmation that a script has made it into the network’s hands.

McShane expressed interest in doing the movie, saying, “We’d all love to do it… It would be nice to see all of the old gang again.” McShane played the role of Al Swearengen in the show that received 28 Emmy nominations and eight Emmy Awards.

Once the cable network cancelled the show after a mere three 12-episode seasons, Milch’s original plan was to make two Deadwood movies and create a proper ending for the rivalry between Sheriff Seth Bullock (Timothy Olyphant) and foul-mouthed pimp Al Swearengen (Ian McShane). The cast for Deadwood also included Molly Parker, Jim Beaver, W. Earl Brown, Dayton Callie, Kim Dickens, Dora DuFran, Brad Dourif, Anna Gunn, John Hawkes and Jeffrey Jones.

The western TV series ran on HBO from 2004 to 2006 and was largely lauded by critics. McShane is currently starring as Mr. Wednesday in the upcoming Starz series American Gods, based on the novel by Neil Gaiman. The show will premiere on April 30, 2017.

Are you guys interested in a Deadwood two-hour movie? Are you excited to see the return of Ian McShane’s Swearengen? Let us know in the comments or tweet us @ComingSoonnet.
