Big Fat Liar 15 years later: Where are they now?

 

Today marks the 15th Anniversary of the release of Big Far Liar, starring Frankie Muniz, Amanda Bynes, and Paul Giamatti. A lot has happened to the cast and creatives behind the movie and we’re here to tell you just what!

Frankie Muniz as Jason Shepard

This blue-eyed, babyface child actor is all grown up. Muniz found fame with the hit comedy TV series, Malcolm in the Middle, and had his breakout film role in the 2000 family film, My Dog Skip. From there, his career kept going with his adventure comedy films like 2002’s Big Fat Liar and 2003’s Agent Cody Banks. Muniz took a break from acting to live out his passion of racing cars professionally. Muniz still does some acting with his most recent spot was in 2015’s Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!. He could be currently be seen on tour with electric indie pop duo Astro Lasso, serving as their manager.

Amanda Bynes as Kaylee

Bynes was introduced to the world through the Nickelodeon mid-’90s hit comedy All That. She rocketed as the teen princess in films and television series, like Big Fat Liar, 2002’s What I like about You, 2003’s What a Girl Wants, 2007’s Hairspray and Sydney White, and 2010’s Easy A. After going through some trouble with the law and dealing with mental illness, Bynes bounced back and is now focused on fashion. She is currently enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.

Paul Giamatti as Marty Wolf

This Yale-alum was well-known in the acting community prior to being cast in Big Fat Liar. After the film, the Emmy-winning actor went onto star in indie hits, like 2003’s American Splendor and 2004’s Sideways, to blockbusters like 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and award-winning films like Cinderella Man, Straight Outta Compton, and 12 Years a Slave. It was his portrayal as the title character in the 2008 HBO miniseries John Adams that earned him an Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award. Giamatti currently serves as executive producer for WGN America’s Outsiders and seen on Showtime’s Billions.

 

Amanda Detmer as Monty Kirkham

Detmer made her debut as Miss Minneapolis in the 1999 comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous. She was then cast in Boys and Girls, Saving Silverman, The Majestic, and Big Fat Liar. She was recently seen in the Fox series Second Chance and will be seen next in writer Marc Cherry’s southern drama pilot on ABC, which also stars Reba McEntire.

 

Donald Faison as Frank Jackson

Faison was well-known in the comedy world for his role on the TV series Clueless and comedy films like Big Fat Liar and Trippin. After BFL, Faison was best known for his role as Turk on the NBC hit comedy Scrubs. Faison continued acting in the TV Land series The Exes. His voice could be heard on The BoondocksAmerican Dad, Robot Chicken, and Supermansion. Faison is currently serving as host for the GSN game show, Winsanity.

 

Russell Hornsby as Marcus Duncan

Known for his Off-Broadway productions, Hornsby was cast in Big Far Liar as Marty’s boss, president of Universal Pictures. Since then, he has appeared on multiple television series, like In Treatment and Lincoln Heights. He also had a role in the Oscar-nominated film, Fences, and is currently starring in NBC’s Grimm.

 

John Cho as Director Dustin “Dusty” Wong

Cho was known for his slacker role from 1999’s American Pie and various indie roles before being cast as the director of “Marty’s” movie in Big Fat Liar. Since then, Cho has starred in films and television series such as 2004’s Harold and Kumar, ABC’s 2009 TV series Flashfoward and 2014 Selfie, and the new reboot of Star Trek. He could currently be seen in the new USA series Connoisseur.

 

Alex Breckenridge as Jamie Shepard

Breckenridge has come a long way from playing Jason’s irresponsible big sister. Breckenridge has been active in the television circuit in hit shows like True Blood, American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, and most recently, NBC’s This is Us.

 

Sandra Oh as Ms. Phyllis Caldwell

Oh was known for her independent roles prior to being cast for Big Fat Liar. She continued working on hit independent movies like Under the Tuscan Sun and Sideways (alongside her BFL co-star Giamatti). Oh is best known for her role as Cristina Yang on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. You could currently see Oh on this season of American Crime on ABC.

 

Lee Majors as Vince

A heartthrob and icon of the ’70s, Majors was known for his role as the iconic lead character in the mid-’70s hit series, The Six Million Dollar Man. He has continued working on the big screen and silver screen and can be recently seen on Starz’s Ash Vs Evil Dead.

 

Taran Killam as Brett Callaway

Big Fat Liar was one of Killam’s first real movie roles, and has since skyrocketed on film and television. Killam was cast member on Saturday Night Live for six seasons and appeared in popular films such as The Heat, 12 Years a Slave, and 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He is currently working on his directorial debut Why We’re Killing Gunther, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

 

John Gatins as Tow Truck Driver

Did the tow truck driver look familiar? Well, he just happens to be one of there most popular screenplay writers in Hollywood today. Gatins is known for Sci-fi adventure and dramatic screenplays. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the 2012 film Flight, and is currently the screenwriter for the upcoming Kong: Skull Island and Power Rangers film.
