Film is currently in a time where young actors and actresses are on the rise, being discovered and taking roles that are defining their careers, blowing critics away with their performances. We have seen this time and time again in the last 10 years, with the likes of John Boyega, Dane DeHaan, Lupita Nyong’o, Génesis Rodríguez, and Hailee Steinfeld, just to name a few. Hollywood has expanded their horizons in recognizing talent from the younger crowd, and have hit pay dirt with many of these actors and actresses. Some of those names are the likes of Daisy Ridley, who received critical acclaim from her role in the recent installment in the Star Wars saga, Episode 7: The Force Awakens, and Tom Holland, who received widespread recognition in portraying the Web Head himself in this year’s Captain America: Civil War. These two names have been on the mouths of many, particularly the folks over at Lionsgate, and it sounds like they may be working together really soon.
The Hollywood Reporter is confirming that Tom Holland is currently in negotiations to join Daisy Ridley in Lionsgate’s post-apocalyptic thriller titled Chaos Walking. The film, directed by Doug Liman, is an adaptation of the best-selling YA novel by Patrick Ness. The story is broken into a trilogy, and is set in a dystopian world where all living creatures can hear each other’s thoughts in a stream of images, words, and sounds called Noise. It follows the journey of two children, Todd Hewitt and Viola Eade, who encounter various moral issues and high stakes as the planet around them erupts into war. According to THR, if Holland gets cast, he would star as a boy forced to flee his town with his loyal dog, and who comes upon a strange sight: a girl (Ridley).
