Designated Survivor Season 3 Episode 2 Recap

In the previous episode of Netflix’s Designated Survivor, Pres. Kirkman hired Lorraine to be his campaign manager, and hundreds of cardinals fell from the sky in Florida. In Designated Survivor Season 3 Episode 2, Kirkman tackled the issue of child marriage during infrastructure week, and Hannah met with a biohacker.

Wife, Not Daughter

Pres. Kirkman was launching a massive infrastructure plan supported by a partnership of public and private funds. A portion of those funds came from a Saudi prince, who wanted to meet him. After smiling for a photo op with him and a 14-year-old girl, he realized that she was his wife and not his daughter. After some flippant remarks to the press about childhood marriage in Saudi Arabia, Kirkman and his team learned about its existence within the United States. Emily wanted a straight-up ban, Isabel advised on addressing the root cause of teenage pregnancy, and Lorraine wanted the issue tabled because of the election.

After speaking with his daughter, Kirkman decided to propose legislation. However, during his speech, he omitted that section at the last minute and went on to discuss infrastructure. He didn’t give Penny a good answer about why he didn’t follow through. His staff realized that he had finally become a politician.

“Why Didn’t You Vote”

Designated Survivor Season 3 Episode 2 Recap

The president’s senior staff dealt with a myriad of issues throughout the episode. Harper wasn’t present for the disastrous interview because his wife had tried to refill her fentanyl prescription early. He ended up admitting her into rehab. Meanwhile, he was dealing with a mouse infestation at the White House.

Seth learned that he was a father. As a freshman at Harvard, he’d donated some of his sperm. Through a DNA ancestry kit, his daughter, Stephanie, found him and wrote a letter. On Air Force One, he attempted to call her but didn’t go through with it.

Emily found out that Dontae hadn’t voted in the last election. She was obsessed with finding out why, so Dontae provided her with a video of people voicing their reasons for it. Emily told Kirkman that she wanted to join the campaign. She didn’t trust Lorraine. Meanwhile, Lorraine went to Aaron’s apartment to ask him to consider being Kirkman’s running mate. He had just gotten on a magazine’s list of sexiest politicians.

Biohacking

Designated Survivor Season 3 Episode 2 Recap

Hannah was bored working as an analyst. She went to Dianne about speaking with a biohacker who could engineer a plant to wipe out cocaine in the Middle East. When Hannah visited Dr. Eli Mays, he wasn’t interested. She asked what scared him the most, and he showed her one of the dead birds from Florida. Dr. Mays told her about another biohacker familiar with avian viruses. When Hannah and Mays arrived at his lab, it had been completely cleaned out. We saw the biohacker locked in a freezer at the beginning of the episode, and at the end, he was dead with pustules on his face. Someone was burning his body.
