Captain Marvel has been receiving a lot of flak as of late, especially with Brie Larson’s comments about how there are a lot of white men at press events. She clarified that she doesn’t want to want to take seats away from them, but that didn’t stop the angry fans from writing negative comments on Captain Marvel’s audience page on Rotten Tomatoes. In return, this resulted in the aggregated site changing its audience page so that people can’t make comments or post reviews until a movie is out. In addition, there are Shazam! fans that are attacking Captain Marvel for not being the original Captain Marvel. Zachary Levi, who plays the DC superhero, is urging fans to stop pitting one movie against another.
“There are people out there making defamatory and completely fictitious reviews and posts of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel — and trying to pit Shazam against it, saying they’re gonna support us and not them because of things they are making up,” Levi said in his video.
“For anyone out there who thinks you’re doing me a favor, or you’re doing Shazam a favor, you’re not,” Levi added. “This is not helping anyone or anything. There is no competition.”
Zachary Levi also talks about how there’s no conspiracy with Marvel trying to pit its Captain Marvel film against the DC movie.
“Just because Shazam used to be called Captain Marvel way back in the day doesn’t mean that somehow Brie or Marvel’s Captain Marvel pitted against us,” he continued. “We’re both movies and we’re both going to be out in theaters at similar times. And the irony of that timing is really interesting, but there is no conspiracy.”

Synopsis: Billy Batson is a streetwise 14-year-old who can magically transform into the adult superhero Shazam simply by shouting out one word. His newfound powers soon get put to the test when he squares off against the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.
The film is directed by David Sandberg, who’s known for directing horror films like Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation, and written by Henry Gayden from a story by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke.
It stars Asher Angel and Zachary Levi as William “Billy” Batson/Shazam, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Jack Dylan Grazer as Frederick “Freddy” Freeman, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez, Marta Milans as Rosa Vasquez, and Djimon Hounsou (Marvel’s Captain Marvel, Aquaman) as Shazam.
Shazam! is based on the DC comic book character created by Bill Parker and C. C. Beck in 1939, so he’s a character that’s been around for a while. His powers include flight, superhuman strength, and lightning.
Shazam! hits theaters on April 5, 2019, and Captain Marvel is coming out on March 8, 2019.
