Riverdale and Beverly Hills 90210 star Luke Perry dead at 52

Luke Perry has passed away at the age of 52, Variety reports. Perry had been admitted to the hospital last Wednesday after suffering from a stroke.

The Mansfield, Ohio-born actor was best known as playing the heartthrob Dylan Thomas on the teen drama Beverly Hills 90210, which launched him into super-stardom. He portrayed the character from 1990-1995, then again from 1998-2000. His character was something of a James Dean-type loner who captivated the hearts of fans the world over. 90210 is set for a six-episode meta-revival, though Perry had not been slated to return along with his former co-stars.

He also voiced a version of himself in both The Simpsons in 1993 and Family Guy in 2000. The first he played Krusty the Clown’s half-brother, who briefly took on the mantle of Sideshow Luke Perry. In the latter, he was interviewed by Meg Griffin (Mila Kunis) for her school paper.

More recently, Perry played Fred Andrews on Riverdale, the father of the show’s main character, Archie Andrews (KJ Apa). He’ll also appear posthumously in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, where he’ll play real-life actor Wayne Maunder.

Perry is survived by his daughter Sophie and his son Jack, a professional wrestler who uses the mantle “Jungle Boy” Nate Coy.
