New Godzilla: King of the Monsters spot: ‘This is Godzilla’s world. We just live in it’

Godzilla King of the Monsters

Warner Bros. has released a new TV spot for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and it shows off the impact the Titans have on earth. We get to see more of King Ghidorah, Mothra, Rodan, and of course, Godzilla, as they roam our planet with an epic version of The Wizard of Oz’s “Over the Rainbow” playing in the background. The person in charge of the music for the promotional videos sure knows how to pick them, with the previous trailer featuring a sweeping score of “Clair de Lune” by Imagine Music.

With the new spot for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, we have more footage of the humans being shocked by the presence of the Titans everywhere. What I love about these new Godzilla films is that the people know their place. In a previous trailer, Ken Watanabe’s Dr. Ishiro Serizawa said, “No, we would be his,” in response to someone asking if he would like to make Godzilla his pet. With this spot, we have someone saying, “This is Godzilla’s world. We just live in it.”

Other highlights include Ghidorah rising out of a volcano with a Christian cross in the foreground, Mothra being blasted by King Ghidorah, the military’s futile attempt at shooting down Rodan, Rodan and Ghidorah flying toward each other, and Vera Farmiga as Dr. Emma Russell saying that the world will perish unless they set Godzilla free.

Synopsis: Following the global success of “Godzilla” and “Kong: Skull Island” comes the next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse, an epic action-adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history. The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

The film is directed by Mike Dougherty from a screenplay by Dougherty and Zach Shields. It stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, Aisha Hinds, O’Shea Jackson Jr., David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, and Zhang Ziyi.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theaters on May 31, 2019.
