Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who directed Kong: Skull Island, is attached as the director of the upcoming Metal Gear film. He revealed on Twitter that he was the one interested in having Oscar Isaac (X-Men: Apocalypse, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) play the role of Solid Snake, the main protagonist in many of the Metal Gear games by creator Hideo Kojima. This comes after Oscar has expressed interest in being a part of the Metal Gear film as Solid Snake.

When BossLogic shared his art of Oscar Isaac as Solid Snake, fans went wild. As it turns out, the idea actually came from director Vogt-Roberts, who shared a chat that he had with the artist in creating the badass artwork.

During IGN’s cast roundtable for Netflix’s Triple Frontier, Isaac said that he is interested in playing Solid Snake.

“Metal Gear Solid, that’s the one,” Isaac said. “I’m throwing my hat in for that one.”

Jordan Vogt-Roberts did mention that casting hasn’t started yet, but if he and Isaac are both down, the odds are definitely high of fans seeing him as the hardened warrior.

The director has worked on video game projects before including directing the live-action trailer for Destiny 2: New Legends Will Rise. He is definitely a fan of Metal Gear Solid, as we can see a Gray Fox Easter egg on a boat in Kong: Skull Island. The name belongs to Solid Snake’s former friend who became a cyborg ninja. For the Metal Gear film, Vogt-Roberts wants an R-rated version to capture the intensity and action.

“It’s about doing it for a price so you can make the riskier, balls-to-the-wall, Kojima-san version of it,” he tells ComicBook.com. “There are Star Wars movies to talk about, there’s all sorts of stuff to talk about. To me, this is that. This is a new frontier not only for me as a filmmaker but I just feel like for audiences. To me, it’s a way to make the first great video game movie where it doesn’t matter that it’s based on a video game.”

The Metal Gear Solid film is based on the popular video game franchise created by Hideo Kojima. In Metal Gear Solid, Solid Snake is tasked with stopping a giant bipedal robot named Metal Gear Rex, which is capable of launching a nuke from anywhere in the world. He is confronted by deadly enemies who will do anything to stop that from happening.

Fans were saddened when it was revealed that Hideo Kojima was no longer a part of Konami and the Metal Gear Solid franchise. This created a lot of drama where a lot of fans were against Konami to show support for Kojima. The creator was able to bounce back quickly by forming a new studio, Kojima Productions, and he’s currently working on Death Stranding with actor Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead).
