The Walking Dead hits all-time low in ratings, still highest cable drama
Though The Walking Dead is still the number one show on cable, according to The Wrap, the zombie series’ audience hit an all-time low with Sunday’s episode, “Omega.” Per the report, the latest episode averaged a 1.7 rating in the key 18-49 demographic, which was down 15 percent from the midseason premiere, and just below the 1.8 low the series hit last fall.

A zombie apocalypse sans Rick Grimes has not generated as much interest as the producers had hoped. Then again, the show was facing stiff competition from the NBC All-Star Game on TNT and TBS, which might account for the declining ratings.
The show has seen a steady decline in its ratings over the past few seasons and doesn’t generate the same amount of hype it once did. That hasn’t stopped AMC from green lighting a 10th season though so fans mustn’t worry just yet.
The second half of The Walking Dead Season 9 finds our groups of survivors, both old and new, continuing to deal with the impact of events that took place during the six years that have passed. Since the disappearance of Rick, many of these characters have become strangers to each other, and in some ways, strangers to themselves. What they do know is that they are in undeniable danger. They will soon realize the world just beyond does not operate as they thought.

The group’s rules and ways of survival no longer guarantee their safety. A whole new threat has crossed their paths, and they soon discover it’s unlike any threat they have encountered or endured before. The group will start to question what they think they see. What may appear to be normal in this post-apocalyptic world could actually be more disturbing and terrifying than when the apocalypse first broke out. All that is certain is the stakes are high and numerous.
The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
