The real reason Netflix canceled Marvel shows was due money, shocking!

Netflix Punisher Jessica Jones Luke Cage Iron Fist

There have been plenty of speculations as to why Netflix has canceled its Marvel shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher. One reason is that Disney will have its own streaming service called Disney+, so having a show owned by Disney would not be ideal. Another reason is that the shows were more expensive to produce. Now we have The Hollywood Reporter saying that the reason Netflix has canceled the shows was due to money.

“Put simply: Netflix did not have an ownership stake in any of its Marvel TV series. Each of the six Marvel shows was owned by Disney. Netflix paid ABC Studios a (steep) licensing fee for each season of its respective series.

While those licensing fees lined Disney’s coffers, the Mouse House — like other conglomerates (and Netflix) — is increasingly focused on owning its own content. What’s more, Disney is increasingly focused on populating its upcoming service — Disney+ — with content and announced back in August 2017 plans to pull its Marvel feature films from Netflix. Disney and Marvel executives have also indicated that the canceled Netflix fare could live again on Disney+.”

This piece of info isn’t too surprising since many knew that Disney and Netflix are pretty much competing against each other, and Disney has been buying up everything and bringing many of its properties back into the fold.

Marvel TV isn’t giving up on the characters, with Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb saying that we’ll be seeing them again. Will we see them on the Disney+ streaming platform? Disney CEO Bob Iger has mentioned that the service will cater to families. The company has also invested in Hulu, and he says that other programs would go there for general entertainment. With that said, if Disney brings these characters to Disney+, we doubt that it would keep the show’s mature rating. However, if the shows transfer, that will definitely upset fans who enjoyed the dark take on the Marvel characters. Hulu would be a better platform, and Hulu’s Senior Vice President of Originals Craig Erwich did say it was open to the idea of reviving those shows.

With no more new seasons of the Marvel shows on Netflix in the works, you can still catch up on the old episodes.
