Ted Melfi’s Fruit Loops lands Woody Harrelson to star
Woody Harrelson has landed the starring role in Ted Melfi’s Fruit Loops, per The Hollywood Reporter. The comedy-drama from the St. Vincent director centers on a group of mental patients who have to band together when their hospital is sold. Harrelson will play Colonel Leonard F. Cubby, who suffers from PTSD after his tours of Vietnam.

Melfi wrote the script and is planning to direct the film. Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping will produce, having worked with the director on St. Vincent and the awards contender Hidden Figures, which Melfi produced.
The director is also in negotiations to direct a sci-fi flick Harry’s All Night Hamburgers for Warner Bros. According to THR, some sources are saying that Melfi will move forward and direct Fruit Loops first, possibly as early as this May, before he moves on to the sci-fi adventure.
The ever-busy Harrelson had a busy year last year, starring as Tobias Beckett in Solo: A Star Wars Story and a brief after-credits scene as Cletus Kasady in Sony’s surprise hit Venom. There’s no word if he’ll reprise his role from the upcoming Venom sequel.
