Gwyneth Paltrow set to exit the MCU after Endgame
Gwyneth Paltrow is retiring the role of Pepper Potts. The character, who first debuted in 2008’s MCU-kickoff Iron Man, went from being the personal assistant of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) to his one true love. Paltrow told Variety she will be ending her tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame this April.
“I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point,” said Paltrow. “I feel very lucky that I did it because I actually got talked into it. I was friend with [Iron Man director] Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience making the first Iron Man and then to watch how important it has become to fans.”

While the actress said she was “honored” to be a part of the cinematic powerhouse the MCU has become, so she’s leaving the option open for a bit part or a flashback should the need arise. “Of course, if they said, ‘Can you come back for a day?‘ I will always be there if they need me.”
Of course, the absence of Pepper Potts calls into question the fate of Tony Stark, who — like a few Avengers — may or may not make it out of Avengers: Endgame alive.
In the meantime, Paltrow will focus on her lifestyle and ‘wellness’ brand, Goop, which just scored its very own docuseries from Netflix. It’s also launching a podcast in partnership with Delta Airlines, which will feature eight episodes streaming on 600 Delta planes with a potential reach of over 18 million listeners. The first round of shows will include a one-on-one conversation between Paltrow and Oprah Winfrey.
