Frank Herbert’s novel, Dune, is being adapted again for the big screen, and this time Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve will be at the helm. The list of notable actors is growing, especially with reports of Aquaman’s Jason Momoa recently being added. He’ll be joining Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Timothée Chalamet, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling.
Villeneuve made a name for himself with movies like Prisoners starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, Sicario starring Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin, Arrival starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, and Blade Runner 2049 starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.
With Blade Runner 2019, Villeneuve expanded on the sci-fi classic. But with Dune, he won’t be tied to the previous 1984 sci-fi film by David Lynch. That film was a box office failure since it grossed $31 million back then from a $40 million budget. It also didn’t help that the film was blasted by the majority of the critics out there.
Synopsis: Set in the distant future amidst a feudal interstellar society in which various noble houses control planetary fiefs, Dune tells the story of young Paul Atreides, whose family accepts the stewardship of the planet Arrakis.
The film is written by Villeneuve, Eric Roth and Jon Spaights.
Momoa will portray Duncan Idaho, with Rebecca Ferguson (The Greatest Showman, Mission: Impossible – Fallout) as Lady Jessica, Timothée Chalamet (Interstellar) as Paul Atreides, Zendaya (The Greatest Showman, Spider-Man: Homecoming) as Chani, Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2) as Gurney Halleck, Charlotte Rampling (Dexter, Assassin’s Creed) as Reverend Mother Mohiam, Javier Bardem (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) as Stilgar, Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, X-Men: Apocalypse) as Duke Leto Atreides, Dave Bautista (The Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Infinity War) as Glossu ‘Beast’ Rabban, and Stellan Skarsgård (Thor, The Avengers) as Baron Harkonnen.
