Putting The Pieces Back Together

The Punisher Season 2 Episode 2

Madani continues to visit Billy in the hospital, both in the morning before her shift and in the evening after work. She can’t get over the fact that Billy played her and ended up shooting her in the head. She thinks he’s still lying, pretending not to know what happened to him or what he’s done in order to avoid prosecution. Even in her dreams, Madani has nightmares of Billy laughing at her.

However, Billy can’t seem to piece his fragmented memory back together. He’s physically getting stronger by exercising in his hospital room, but he can’t pull his mind together. He complains that his head and his face still hurt, even though there is no physical reason they should. When Billy takes a Tylenol for his head, he tips his mask up just enough to drink some water, but turns his face away from Dr. Dumont so that she can’t see his face underneath the mask.

Billy says that the last thing he remembers clearly is his time in the military. He doesn’t remember anything since coming home. He can’t even remember conversations he’s just had or thing’s he’s just done. He knows that he must have hurt Madani somehow to earn her hatred, but even after repeated conversations on the subject he doesn’t remember shooting her in the head. Billy is plagued by nightmares from the night Frank maimed him, but they’re not coherent.

“Is This, Like, Normal Behavior For You?”

The Punisher Season 2 Episode 2 Recap

Frank tries to get a straight story from Rachel, but she’s not telling him anything. Frank finds a couple rolls of film on her, but she claims not to know anything about them or why the killers are after her. Frank knows that whomever is coming for them can’t be far behind, so he rents the room on the other side of theirs and tears a hole through the wall between them in order to create a trap for the assassins.

When the killers come, Frank gives Rachel a handgun. She tries to use it to convince him to let her go, but can’t make herself shoot him. When the killers arrive, Frank takes out the three that break into their hotel room, then gets in a firefight with the sniper in the van. Rachel listens to the gunfire and when it stops she tries to run away, but the surviving killer, Marlena, comes in through the other room’s door. Frank knocks Marlena out and plans to load her into the van and get some answers from her. But Marlena comes to and leads Frank away from the van, giving Rachel the opening she needs to get in the van and escape. However, the police arrive before she can get out of the parking lot, arresting Frank, Rachel, and Marlena.
