Sci-fi feature Stardream lands The Wife director Björn Runge
Swedish director Björn Runge has found his next project. Variety reports that the filmmaker, whose latest effort The Wife scored Glenn Close a surprise win at the 76th annual Golden Globes last night, is set to helm the post-apocalyptic sci-fi feature Stardream.
The film, written by Felix Harrison (Far Edge of the World), follows the journey of hundreds of thousands of people who board a spaceship to escape Earth and travel to a distant planet. When the ship starts to malfunction, the command team develops an AI, Stephen. But Stephen develops a profound attachment to Andreya, his creator, and the future of the human race is compromised.
“It is an absolute privilege to be a part of Stardream,” said Runge. “Dealing with big questions about humanity, this is a powerful drama with hypnotic possibilities that will take everyone involved to a new level of filmmaking. The audience will be invited into a mind-blowing experience about loss and love.”
Runge will also be bringing along his team from The Wife, including director of photography Ulf Bråntas and editor Lena Rung. Producers include Silver Reel’s Claudia Bluemhuber and The Wife co-producer Georgia Bayliff.
The film is currently casting for principal roles and plans on shooting in the UK sometime this summer.
