Runaways Season 2 Episode 5 Recap
Jonah introduces Karolina to her alien family in Runaways season 2 episode 5. After taking her down in the hole, Jonah encourages Karolina to touch the rocks, which glow beneath her fingers. Jonah explains that his spacecraft crashed on earth long before recorded history and that he’s been working since to recover his family aboard.
Runaways
Topher tells the group that he was like them in that he came from the suburbs, his parents were terrible people, and one day he had enough and ran away. He explains that while dumpster diving, he came across the rocks that gave him the yellow eyes and enhanced abilities. He has since become addicted and the vial that Nico took from him is all that he has left.
Still looking to make a connection with Topher, Molly explains to him about the dig site and the rocks there. The next morning, Topher hits the dig site to gather more rocks, and the kids follow him. When the group arrives, Topher has injured one worker and carjacked someone else. They follow Topher to his family’s house, where they learn that everything he told them was a lie. Topher found a rock the night of the lab explosion that killed Molly’s family. Since then, he’s lied, stolen, and hurt people, which is why his family kicked him out of the house.
Topher becomes enraged and attacks Molly, who tells the others to back off and let her handle the situation so she can get through to Topher. Nico and Chase intervene, and Topher is severely injured saving Gert from a flying dumpster. Molly lashes out at group for not accepting Topher as a kid like them who needed help and at Nico in particular for acting like her mother.
PRIDE
With the box complete, Jonah calls on Frank to find a runaway at the Church to sacrifice. however, Frank can’t bring himself to feed another human being to Jonah. Leslie lashes out at Jonah for keeping his meetings with Karolina a secret from her. At the end of the episode, Karolina comes to her mother wanting to know the truth about Jonah.
Janet’s work on the Abstract continues. Her attempts to decipher the book’s language lead her to uncover that Jonah’s ship is powered by an anti-gravity engine. When started, the engine will destroy the city, and perhaps all of California. Janet enters the algorithm again and asks Victor for help in creating a weapon that can destroy Jonah’s ship.
Robert has had enough of Jonah. Working in secret, he develops an inhibitor field based off of the technology in the bracelet that Karolina left behind. Robert breaks into Jonah’s office and activates the inhibitor field, causing Jonah to weaken. Before Robert can increase the field, workers at the Church knock him out from behind and save Jonah, who delivers an unconscious Robert back to PRIDE’s surveillance headquarters.
