D-Link announces new products ahead of CES 2019

CES 2019 will kick off in just a few days, and in anticipation for the world’s biggest electronics show, D-Link has announced its slate of new products that will be highlighted at this year’s convention. One product that looks to stand out amongst D-Links bevy of new products is a brand new 5G router.

The D-Link 5G NR enhanced gateway router will give consumers download speeds that are 40x faster than today’s current average broadband speed of 70mbps. With 5G accelerating within the next year, consumers will begin to look at wireless carriers as their new internet providers. The 5G NR will allow consumers to tap into their provider’s new wireless capabilities.

The 5G-NR will offer customizable options that will make it suitable for the wide range of network configurations from service providers. The router will feature an embedded 5G NR (New Radio) NSA module that will be able to operate on the sub-6 Ghz or frequencies in the 200 or 800 MHz configurations. The 5G NR will be built with a remote management system and FOTA support that will give its users a hassle-free operation and a better customer experience. It will be available in the second half of 2019, with pricing dependent on preferred service providers.

Along with the 5G-NR, D-Link has also announced new apps and products to its myDlink connected home lineup. The new products will consist of two new Wi-Fi smart plugs, the Indoor Wi-Fi Smart Plug, and the Outdoor Wi-Fi Smart Plug, along with the new Battery Wi-Fi Water Sensor. The new myDlink ecosystem of products and features will work with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. The two new smart plugs will allow homeowners to expand the areas in which automated lighting can be placed. The Wi-Fi water sensor will be able to be placed anywhere, especially in areas where water leaks might occur. The sensor will have convenient and flexible security against potential water leaks since the device will run off batteries. New app features for the mydlink cameras will include options such as Smart Recap, Rich Notifications, and enhanced voice-control integration. The Wi-Fi water sensor will be released in the first quarter of 2019 with a retail price of $49.99, while the two new smart plugs will be released in the second quarter of 2019.

For consumers that are looking for a faster and more secure home network, D-Link is introducing a new line of Exo Routers and Extender points. The router and extenders will pair together to create a complete mesh coverage while adding security with McAfee. The mesh technology will make it possible for consumers to add a personalized touch to their home network, while simultaneously providing them with speed and coverage and the flexibility to expand later on. The Wi-Fi mesh will also create one single network that will let all devices automatically connect with the best connection available, even as they move around the home. The Exo router will also provide four Gigabit Ethernet ports with additional USB ports for storage or other devices.

The D-Link security suite, powered by McAfee, will begin to work as soon as the router is set-up. It will utilize cloud-based machine learning that will adapt to new threats in real-time by constantly updating the threat database automatically. Parents will also have access to parental controls which are designed to help protect their children from harmful content and malicious websites. Parents will be able to create profiles for each of their kids and devices, which they will be able to customize from a list of preset consent filters. The Exo router and points are expected to be released in the second quarter of 2019 will prices ranging between $79.99 to $199.99.
