The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 Episode 9 Recap
In the previous episode Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Midge and Susie went on tour together. In The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 2 episode 9, Midge performed on a telethon.
Third Annual Stop Arthritis and Rheumatism Telethon
Through quick deal-making at Stage Deli, Susie got Midge a gig performing on a telethon for arthritis and rheumatism. When Midge told her parents, they were unenthusiastic. She wanted them to see her perform. Midge also argued with Rose about telling Benjamin she was at the park with Ethan.
On the day of the telethon, Susie discovered that Sophie Lennon was there. Nicky, one of the men who was going to kill Susie, walked over to tell them Sophie said hi. Sure enough, Sophie ensured that Midge would get no screen time taking calls, and her 9:50pm spot was changed to the final slot of the night at 11:55pm. In Sophie’s dressing room, Susie confronted her.
Despite the terrible time slot, Midge had a great performance. People throughout town were watching and laughing. More calls were coming in even though it was the end of the broadcast. Even the control room, who were continuously hostile to Midge and Susie, loved her performance. But when Susie told her she went after Sophie, Midge was upset that she antagonized Sophie again right when things were taking off for her.
Coming Clean
Abe had become very disagreeable. His students were dropping his class, and Simon suggested he take a sabbatical. Abe threatened to stab him in the eye with a cheese knife. What’s more, his project had stalled since their equipment hadn’t arrived yet.
Noah met Abe at a bar. He told Abe that his project was canceled, but no one wanted to tell him. Abe was being investigated, and his background and activism when he was younger was being looked at closely. Noah explained that it was because Midge had talked about Abe’s project during her set in D.C.
While Midge was on during the telethon, Abe watched in wonder as he noticed the neighbors were also watching her. Rose and Abe could no longer deny Midge’s comedy career.
Building Manager
Joel was working hard on behalf of Maisel & Roth. One night, Moishe told Joel to take a break. He praised Joel’s decision to hire a building manager, who got them a good contract with a tenant. Moishe explained that he wanted to pay Joel all the money he’d owed him in his life. He was letting Joel go so he wouldn’t get stuck. He gave Joel a check for $60,000 so he could be free to do whatever he wanted. While he watched Midge on TV, he took out the check and had an idea of what to do with it.
