Superman has been tackled by many writers whether it’s for a movie, TV show or comic book. Smallville has been a long-running series, lasting around 10 years. However, Superman has been a sore subject for some fans as of late when it comes to the DC Extended Universe. Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors who have worked on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and the upcoming Avengers: Endgame, have a thing to say about the difficulty of Superman as a character.

“The more powerful a character is, the more difficult to deal with that character on a narrative level,” Anthony tells Business Insider. “As storytellers, and the way we explore characters, we always look for vulnerabilities in characters because that’s where characters become interesting. They’re superficially interesting in their strength, but they get much more depth when you find where they don’t have that kind of strength. In general, the more powerful a character is, the more tricky that is.”

It sounds like the Russo brothers could be talking about characters like Thanos or Hulk, but they are directing it towards the Man of Steel.

“He’s a very difficult character,” Joe said. “You have to find an emotional flaw or weakness in the character in order to make them vulnerable.”

So where does that leave Superman now? Henry Cavill is the most recent Superman seen on the big screen. After appearing in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Justice League, will we see Supes in an upcoming film? There has been worry that Cavill isn’t returning as the boy scout, and he even posted a cryptic video of himself with a Superman toy. What does it mean? Well, he’s busy starring in the upcoming Netflix series, The Witcher, which is based on the book that inspired the popular video game series.

Jason Momoa, who’s playing Aquaman, tells Entertainment Tonight that Cavill isn’t out.

“I just talked to Henry… He’s absolutely not [leaving the character],” Momoa said. “He loves the character. He’s not. One hundred percent.”

“It’s absolutely [not going to happen],” he continued.

In the meantime, fans can get ready to see what Thanos, a powerful character, has in store in Avengers: Endgame when it releases in theaters on April 26, 2019.
